Cardiovascular diseases

The current post genomic era has
characterized by a large increase in
the number of potential therapeutic targets amenable to investigation.Insilico structure based design is rapidly becoming the lead identification corner stone of many drug discovery processes.design of drugs is an iterative process, which begins by the identification of a compound.traditional approaches to drug discovery rely on a step-wise synthesis & screening program for large numbers of compounds to optimize activity profiles.the methods are based on the interaction theory between drugs &their target proteins.cardiovascular diseases refer the class of diseases that involve the heart or blood vessels(arteries and veins).types of cardiovascular diseases include:arrythmias, hypertension, myocardial infraction, cardiomyopathy etc. Cardiomyopathy, which literally means "heart muscle disease",is the deterioration of the function of the myocardium(i.e.,the actual heart muscle)for any reason.People with cardiomyopathy are often at risk of arrhythmia or sudden cardiac death or both.

Anatomical descriptions of cardiomyopathy include:
  • Dilated cardiomyopathy, which involves dilation or enlargement of the heart's ventricles and an increase  in the size of the heart overall
  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which involves an abnormal growth of muscle fibers in the heart muscle, usaully in the left ventricle
  • Restrictive cardiomyopathy which means the heart muscle cannot adequately fill with blood after contraction, making thus a diastolic disorder
  • Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia,a condition in which muscle in the right ventricle is replaced by fat and fibrous tissue
Basic causes
it may be caused by a wide range of conditions, including chronic diseases, alcoholism, viral diseases, heart attacks & many others.they cause symptoms including shortness of breath, chest pain, fainting, dizzing and a reduced ability to exercise.According to the American heart association's2006 heart and stroke statistical update, more than 27,000 deaths each year are caused by cardiomyopathy
